Nell Burrow Alexander
July 29, 1942 – February 8, 2020
Nell Burrow Alexander,77, of Birmingham Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of February 8, 2020. “Mama Nell” as she was known to family was born in Hamilton Alabama on July 29, 1942.
She was married to John Michael Alexander on August 29, 1964.
Mama Nell had a full and varied career. She was a dental hygienist before her marriage and continued to work in dentistry until her children were born. She then became a full-time Mom, active in her children’s church and school activities. Once her children were older, she became the church hostess at Woodlawn Baptist Church (now The Church at Liberty Park) and served faithfully there for 18 years.
Her hobbies were many and varied but the two most notable were cooking and her family and she loved both. She was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by those who held her near and dear to their heart.
Mama Nell is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, John Michael Alexander, and her much loved children Alan (Valerie) Alexander and Beth A. Cross (Adam) and the joys of her life, her grandchildren, Harper, Carter and Emory Alexander.
She is survived by her two brothers, Johnny G. Burrow (Letha) of Hamilton, Alabama and Jimmy P. Burrow (Annette) of Birmingham, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tranie and Lora Bell Burrow of Hamilton, Alabama.
The family would like to thank Lipford Home Care and St. Vincent’s Hospice for their care of our wife and mother. Mike, Alan and Beth would like to say a special thank you to caregiver Candace Hill, who became a friend of ours and Mama Nell, for loving our wife and mother.
