
May Olive Moody Moore-Emerson (Olive), 93, died Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, AL of congestive heart failure. Olive was born on April 12, 1924 in Oneonta AL to Mr. & Mrs. William Earl Moody (Ona Graves) and had four brothers whom she adored – Max, Walter, David & Raymond Moody. Olive attended Oneonta High School, Athens College, and Auburn University. She married the love of her life, Bill B. Moore on August 9, 1946. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage. Ten years after Bill's death, Olive married Jay Emerson on July 21, 1998, and they had a beautiful 3 years together before his death. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, husband Jay, parents, Mr. & Mrs. Earl Moody, and her four brothers. Olive was a faithful member of Mountain Brook Baptist and served in many capacities including the role of deaconess, library & wedding committees, Missionary House committee, WMU Day President, and as a member of the Grace Nelson Agape Sunday School class. Olive contributed to the community in many service organizations including Samford Auxiliary, Vestavia Friends of the Library, The Club, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, The Baptist Associational Medical Apartments, the Alabama Grief Support Foundation, and the Vestavia Historical Society. Olive was completely devoted to her family, and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Linda Anderson (Buddy), her son Don Moore (Cindy), six grandchildren and their spouses - Lindsey Anderson Adair (Matt), Abbey Anderson Plant (Adam), Stacey Anderson, Bill Moore (Adrienne), Hudson Moore (Annie) and Tyler Moore (Emily). She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren (two who were named for her) – Jonathan, Will, & Ben Adair; Olivia, Evelyn, & Isaac Plant; Cooper Merritt; June Moore; Olivia & Charlotte Moore; and James & Ellie Kate Moore. She is also survived by sisters in law Mary Moody, Jean Moody, and Peggy Faust; four step-children & their spouses and children; and many nieces, nephews & cousins. Olive is both preceded in death and also survived by countless friends who dearly treasured her life. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 in the morning on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Mountain Brook Baptist church. The family requests donations in Olive's memory be directed to Mountain Brook Baptist Church or The Salvation Army.
