Randy spent nearly 40 years helping operate his family’s business, Otto’s Bark & Stuff, and later worked as a flatbed truck driver. A hardworking and devoted man, Randy was best known for his extraordinary kindness, generosity, and selflessness. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back without hesitation, never expecting anything in return. No favor was too big, and no distance was too far if it meant helping someone he loved.
Randy had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious love for life. He was always joking, laughing, and finding ways to bring a smile to those around him. Easygoing and always ready for an adventure, Randy never needed elaborate plans to have a good time. He was happiest simply being surrounded by the people he loved.
Above all, Randy cherished his family and the simple joys of life. He shared an especially close bond with his beloved niece, Lesley, whom he loved as a daughter, her husband, DJ, and their children, Jorden, Makinley, Mallie, and Kotten. Randy was a constant presence in their lives, sharing in their accomplishments, laughter, and everyday moments.
Randy had a tremendous love for the lake and all the adventures that came with it. Whether fishing with the kids, riding an inner tube, cruising on the pontoon boat, or enjoying the jet ski, he was always ready to join in the fun. The lake house became his second home and his happiest place, where he was woven into the everyday lives of the family he loved so dearly. He spent countless days there working on projects, sharing stories, making everyone laugh, or simply sitting at the table with coffee enjoying the view.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Otto H. Tompkins, who passed away in 2004.
He is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Walker Tompkins; his brother, Charles A. Tompkins; his nieces, Ashley and Lesley; Lesley’s husband, DJ, and their children, Jorden, Makinley, Mallie, and Kotten; his aunts, Wilma “Shorty” Walker and Joy White; his cousin, Amanda Cahoon; and numerous other beloved family members and friends.
Randy’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and showing up for the people you love. His kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though his time was far too short, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain forever.
The lake will never be quite the same without Randy, but his laughter will forever echo through the memories made there. A memorial service celebrating Randy’s life will be held at Lake Jordan in Deatsville, Alabama, on November 7, 2026. For additional details, please contact Lesley Lowe.
