Pamela Suzanne "Mitchell" Busby, 76, unexpectedly and peacefully passed away in her sleep at her Pelham, AL home July 31, 2026. Born in Birmingham, AL, Mama was a strong woman of faith, warmth, and deep love of family.
She was the faithful and devoted wife of 55 years to Johnny Busby. The two of them met while working at Alabama Power in the late 60's. They quickly fell in love and were married Nov. 27, 1970.
She retired after years of service at the Shelby County License office and Business License office. She met several citizens of Shelby County, and they often spoke of how hard Mama worked to help make your experience at the DMV to be efficient, accurate,
and quick.
A lifelong lover of arts and nature, Mama found much joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved flowers, the changing colors of trees in the fall, and many types of beautiful plants. She was an avid reader and writer and appreciated the power of words.
She also enjoyed a wide array of music. Often times, her home would be filled with the sound of her favorite music. An incredible cook, Mama often expressed her love through food, creating unforgettable meals and memories around the dinner table for those she held dear.
Most of all, she was a strong believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She often recited prayers and verses to us in times of distress and joy.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Guy and Joyce Mitchell.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Johnny Busby; her children, Scott Busby (Carrie), Philip Busby (Stephanie), Angela Smith (Tom); her grandchildren, Jake Busby
(Torrie), Riley Busby, Lane Busby, Tucker Busby, Brooke Busby, Noelle Smith, and Dylan Smith; her brother, Garry Mitchell of Mobile; and her sister, Teresa Holland of Pell City.
A celebration of life and visitation will be held Tuesday August 4, 2026, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL from 1:00-2:00 (service to follow). A private family graveside service will be a later date at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are her sons, Scott and Philip Busby; grandsons Jake Busby, Lane Busby, Tucker Busby, and Dylan Smith.
Mama will be truly missed, but praise to her belief in Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death and resurrection, she is eternally home. I know there is much rejoicing in Heaven as she is reunited with her parents and several other loved ones.
We love you Mama and we’ll soon all be together again.
