

Patricia Burg Cotter was born on August 7, 1955, to John and Rose Anne Burg in Birmingham, Alabama. She received her formal education at Saint Vincent’s School of Nursing, where she earned the Academic Award for the Class of 1983. Patricia continued her studies at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree with academic distinction.
Patricia was united in marriage to John Cotter, Jr. in Homewood, Alabama, and their marriage was blessed with three children. She enjoyed a long and dedicated career as a registered nurse, serving most notably at St. Vincent’s Hospital as a labor and delivery nurse. She later worked in case and health management with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama for 19 years, retiring as an Enhancement Analyst in Health Management.
In her leisure time, Patricia enjoyed watching Alabama football, traveling to the beach, spending time with friends and family, cooking, and attending Bible study. She was known for her gentle voice, her kindness, her willingness to help others, and her keen intelligence.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sharon R. Burg. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, John Cotter, Jr.; her children, Dianne C. Elgin (Jason), Alison R. Storey (Jason), and Elizabeth C. Hollingsworth (Nicholas); her grandchildren, Lauren E. Mauney (Avery), Alex C. Storey, Ella R. Storey, Owen B. Elgin, Gabby R. Storey, and Ashlyn M. Storey; her brother, John C. Burg, Jr. (Anna); and her sister, Susan B. Henderson.
Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on November 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum at 12:30 p.m.
