

Paul was an Army veteran of WWII. He enlisted on December 11, 1942 and entered active service on May 20, 1943. He was deployed in the Pacific Theater as an Anti-Tank Gun Crewman for the liberation of the Philippines. In his combat service, he earned the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, APT Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was Honorably Discharged on February 24, 1946 at the rank of Sergeant.
Paul graduated from the University of South Carolina with his undergraduate degree in Accounting. He had a long career in accounting for the DuPont company starting at the Savannah River Plant in South Carolina, then transferred to headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, and finally working the majority of his career in Waynesboro, Virginia. He was a member of the Kawanis Club and loved playing golf and bowling.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Eugenia Johnson; his sister, Joan Johnson; and his loving wife, the former Wilhelmina Thweatt, to whom he was married on November 23, 1955.
Survivors include Paul's three loving children, Paul E. Johnson, Ill (Gail), Bruce C. Johnson (Karen), and Jennifer J. Conlon; grandchildren, Krystyn (Dan) Gallant, Benjamin (Marjorie) Johnson, Caitlin (Cassidy Carden) Johnson, Ashley (Franz) Wesner, Joshua (Miranda) Clark, Kevin (Taylor) Conlon, Alesha Conlon, and Kaylee (Tim) McCarthy; and great-grandchildren, Brody, Cole, and Lorelai Gallant, Tristan and Luca Wesner, and Maureen and Emma McCarthy.
The private memorial service was on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama.
