Paul grew up in the Vinesville area of Birmingham, and left to join the U.S. Navy when he was 17. He served in the Korean War.
He married the love of his life, Carol, on February 23, 1962.
Paul worked for The City of Birmingham as a firefighter for almost 40 years. After retirement, he kept himself busy and active working for Oak Mountain State Park and Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster, Alabama. His family was what he was most proud of.
Paul is survived by his son, Britt York (Paige) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and daughter, Becky Neugent (Brian) of Tallahassee, Florida. He was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren: Kayla Neugent, Cameron York, Kelsey Neugent, Trevor York, and Kendra Neugent.
The family will greet friends from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by the graveside service at 10 a.m. at the adjoining Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
