

Randy's gentle spirit and ever-present smile touched everyone who knew him. A devoted man of faith, he dedicated his life to serving military families through religious education programs, always leading with kindness, patience, and good humor. Whether orchestrating Vacation Bible School programs serving upwards of 1,000 children, mentoring fellow professionals, or cheering on his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide, he brought warmth and encouragement to every interaction. Colleagues remember him as a trusted friend and wise leader; family remembers his unwavering love and support. His legacy of faithful service and genuine care for others will endure in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Randy was born on September 12, 1948, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Noma and Milton Dillard. Randy earned his bachelor's degree from Trevecca Nazarene College and his master's from Scarritt College for Christian Workers. After serving as a Christian education and youth director at several churches, he dedicated 36 years to the U.S. Department of the Army as a civilian Director of Religious Education, overseeing programs like Sunday School and Vacation Bible School that reflected his lifelong passion for faith-based youth education.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene Dillard, and his children, Amber Dillard and Ryan (Amanda) Dillard, and grandchildren, Logan and Chase Hammond and Virginia Verret.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 21, at 11:00 am, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 6690 Cahaba Valley Road; Birmingham, AL 35242. The family invites you to join them for a reception with light refreshments in the church lobby immediately following the service.
