
Raymond Veryl Dunmire age 87 of Maylene, AL passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Vandergrift, PA and preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dunmire, Sr. and Faye Stubrick Dunmire, and one brother, Ivan Russell Dunmire.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ruth March; three sons: Perry (Deborah), Torkville, IL; Cary (Dee), Villa Rica, GA; Barry (Lori), Piedmont, SD; two grandchildren, Kailey Dunmire and Rachel Dunmire, Zelienople, PA; twin brother, Robert Dunmire II (Kathryn), DeLand, FL; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Dunmire, North Apollo, PA; and, a host of nieces and nephews.
Ray was a world war II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943-1946. He was extremely proud to have been a radio operator stationed on Kwajalein Island. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Having graduated from Thiel College (BA), Greenville, PA and Florida State University (MA), Tallahassee, FL he was a professional librarian for 43 years and was a life member of the American Library Association. He served as Director of Libraries from 1953-1965 at Theil College; Director of Libraries from 1965-1969 at Southeastern Community College, Whiteville, NC; Director of Libraries at Augusta College and a Charter Member of the Center for Western Studies, Sioux Falls, SD, from 1969-1983; and, continued his career with the University of Montevallo, AL retiring in 1996 (Professor Emeritus) after serving as Associate Professor and Technical Services Librarian.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, SD. He served as Chairman of the building committee and Church Council, and taught Sunday School.
Ray was an avid sports fan who enjoyed his family, coin and stamp collecting, traveling, photography, history, woodworking and delivering Meals on Wheels
