Rebecca earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from UAB in 1978 before earning a Master’s degree in Immunology from Brown University in 1983. She went on to begin a PHD program at UAB Medical School in molecular biology before taking medical leave in 1985. She went on to work in the departments of cell biology, neurology and infectious disease at UAB Medical School.
Later, Rebecca began a successful career in sales for several years before becoming a stay at home mom in 1993. She was a lover of family, history, classic films, animals, and all things political.
Rebecca is survived by her two daughters, Meagan Coppage of Alabaster, AL, and Michelle Coghlan Purcell of Manchester, UK. She will forever be missed and greatly loved.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the chapel at Church of The Highlands' Grants Mill campus, 4700 Highlands Way, Birmingham, AL 35210.
