Mike, Michelle, Matt, and Mitch: It was with great joy that we welcomed your mom and dad to Seymour fifty years ago in 1961.  It was for your dad's frist coaching job as assistant football coach to Walt at Seymour High School.  As word of his passing has spread around Seymour, many friends and former students and players have shared their sorrow with us and told us stories of their experiences as his students and players.  We remember how we enjoyed being neighbors, going on fishing trips together, and Jacque and Billie and their crew going to football games.  We left Seymour for a time after that year and Dick became the head football coach.  When we returned to Seymour later we resumed our friendship and Billie was fortunate to become Mike and Michelle's kindergarten teacher.  Your famiy has a special place in our hearts, and we remember you all fondly.

Ann, Paula and I are so sorry for the loss of Dick Mace.  We will remember him as a happy, cheerful, laughing and caring person who loved his family and friends. We have been neighbors for 11 years so we will miss Dick's physical presence.  His conversations at Nova & Rick's garden parties, his waves as he drove by in the car on the way to play golf & to fish & do other adventures, as well as his walks down the circle are pleasant memories. His positive influences will remain. We're grateful to have known him. May he rest in peace, and may those in distress be comforted. Much love to all the family.

I knew Dick Mace as a great coach and teacher.  I was very fortunate to have played football and ran track for Dick Mace for three years at Seymour High School in the 1960's.  He was, without question, the best coach in both athletics and life that I ever had.  He was a bundle of positive energy working to make all his pupils the best students, athletes and citizens that they could be.  His great charm, sly wink and sure timing was more than a match for any adolescent indifference or hesitation. He was simply a great mentor, reliable adviser and true friend.  I will always remember Dick Mace as a wonderfully skillful and insightful leader that had a profoundly positive impact on every student athlete who was lucky enough call him Coach. Thanks again Coach, we miss you.
