

BONE, ROBERT, was born October 7, 1943 at St. Mercy's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa and died Sunday afternoon, May 13, 2012 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was raised in Conrad, Iowa and graduated from Beaman-Conrad High School and Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Bob taught high school English and Speech for six years at Crestwood High School in Cresco, Iowa before an over 25-year career as the Chief Executive Officer of chambers of commerce in Manchester, Iowa, Winona, Minnesota, and Tallahassee, Florida. He also worked three years as the Executive Director of the St. Paul Winter Carnival in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bob and his wife Sally owned three retail stores in Florida for nine years. He ended his working years with USAir in Tallahassee, Charlotte, North Carolina, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Knoxville, Tennessee. He retired in 2007. Bob was always involved in many civic activities and served on the Board of or as President of over 20 different organizations such as Rotary, United Way, Community Theatre, and Jaycees. In 1973-74, he was State President of the Iowa Jaycees and won the Clayton Frost Award as one of the five best State Presidents in the nation. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Maysel Bone. Survivors include Bob's wife of 42 years, Sally Bolen Bone; daughter, Jaime (Chad) Echols; son, Brian (Dawn) Bone; grandchildren, Blake, Hallie, Daniel, and Andrew Echols, and Troy and Kaylee Bone; brother, Larry (Marilyn) Bone; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
