Robert “Bob” Allen Roberson

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, 2026 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., with service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Bro. Matthew Brasher will officiate.

Mr. Roberson was a native of Greenville, Alabama, and a member of the Greenville High School Class of 1967. He was raised in the country where boys will be boys and enjoyed every outdoor activity imaginable with his close friends from riding horses and goats to frog gigging and coon hunting. They entertained themselves but also learned to work hard on the farm.

Bob’s incomparable work ethic began at an early age with a bicycle paper route and farm work. Many memories were made while working summers for the Alabama Highway Department with his dad in the 1960’s when the new interstate was being built in Greenville.

A little-known fact about Bob was that he was a licensed funeral director and embalmer until his death. As a high school student, he worked part-time for Dunklin Funeral Home in Greenville learning more than he imagined he would, but it was an intriguing education that served him and his family well. He later worked at Ridout’s Valley Chapel after moving to Homewood, Alabama in 1969 and attended Jefferson State Junior College to complete licensure requirements.

On January 15, 1972, Bob married his sweetheart and the love of his life, Joyce Ann Hall of Mount Olive, Alabama. He realized being at home with his family was most important, so he soon switched occupations and went to work for Burgess Mining Company as their paymaster. During his employment at Burgess, he attended welding classes at Bessemer Tech and later moved into Burgess’ welding shop.

In 1978, Bob ventured out on his own as an independent welder. He founded Welding Contractors, Inc. in 1981, and successfully operated the business until his retirement in 2021. During the life of his company, he expanded into pipefitting and crane services. These skills and assets, along with his impeccable work ethic and reputation, carried him all across the eastern United States working.

Never being afraid of a challenge or danger, Bob answered the call to be a bounty hunter in his spare time – with enough experiences and tales that could have become a bestselling novel. Not surprising to anyone, he was very good at bounty hunting, and his services were highly sought after.

Bob was a patriot who proudly served in the Alabama Army National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. In addition, he owned and operated Bluff Park Mini-Storage. His hobbies were guns, coon hunting with his Black and Tan hounds, and NASCAR racing – all of which he enjoyed sharing with his sons. He was the proud owner of three Grand Nite Champion coon dogs and a highly respected member of the Alabama Coon Hunters Association and the Chelsea Game Preserve, for which he served as a board member for many years. He was a strong advocate of wildlife preservation, hunters’ rights, and gun ownership.

Bob’s wife Joyce was his sweetheart, but his precious grandchildren were the apples of his eyes and nothing made him happier than spending time with them.

Mr. Roberson was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Sarah Grace Stallings Roberson; brother, James Edward Roberson; sister, Grace Ellen Roberson; and his in-laws, Herschel and Frances Hall.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Hall Roberson; his sons, Keith Allen Roberson of Pelham, Kyle Wesley Roberson (Nicole) of McCalla, Alabama, and Joel Edward Roberson (Sherrell) of Columbiana, Alabama; and two sisters, June R. Pryor of Birmingham, Alabama, and Sue R. Arnold of Greenville. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Jackson Allen and Lena Claire Roberson of Helena, Alabama, William Audie and Piper Wesley Roberson of McCalla, Bonnie Kate and Sarah Elizabeth Roberson of Columbiana, and Matthew Cayde Todd of Montgomery, Alabama; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins he loved dearly. Bob was fiercely protective of family because family meant the world to him.

At the funeral services for Bob Roberson on July 31, pallbearers will be Keith Roberson, Kyle Roberson, Joel Roberson, Jack Roberson, Will Roberson, Graham Carlton, Shane Brockman, and Lee Todd. Honorary pallbearers will be John Greene, Arnold “Nubbin” Moore, Charlie Gilmore, Kyle Roberts, and Steven Summers.
