Roger Lamar Bass, age 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2026. A highly successful and respected leader, he spent his professional career building roads and his free time building a life he truly loved.
Roger appreciated the finer things: excellent wine, food, art, and music. He was happiest strumming his guitar, playing a round of golf, watching SEC football, sharing his wisdom through writing, or charming a room. He was incredibly funny, unapologetically himself, and would insist we keep this short and sweet.
Roger leaves behind his wife, Tatiana; daughters, Jennifer and Shelly; his brother, Mark; and five grandchildren. He now joins his beloved son and best friend, Chris. Instead of long speeches, Roger would want you to pour a great glass of wine and tell a funny story.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama, and will be followed by a Celebration of Life Reception indoors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Roger Lamar Bass’ memory to the Christopher L. Bass Memorial Endowed Scholarship at The University of Alabama. Please include a note on the check memo line designating the gift to this specific fund, and mail contributions to Office of Advancement Services, Attn: Christopher L. Bass Memorial Endowed Scholarship, Box 870101, Tuscaloosa, AL 35486.
