Curtis was born on September 9, 1947 in Hokes Bluff, Alabama to C.T. and Thelma Armstrong Strange and was the youngest of six children.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army, working in the Army Security Agency from 1966-1970, including a tour in Vietnam. While in the Army, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Upon being honorably discharged, he furthered his education at Gadsden State Junior College and then attended Jacksonville State University where he graduated with a degree in business in 1976. He then moved to Birmingham, Alabama and embarked on a decades long career in the burgeoning computer industry first with Burroughs and then with Digital Equipment Corporation. His advancement with Digital allowed him to travel extensively, including trips to Monte Carlo, Holland, and Hong Kong. He retired as a Revenue Officer from the Internal Revenue Service in January 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.T. and Thelma Strange; sister, Betty Strange Stricklend; and brothers, Don Strange, Roger Strange, and Charles Strange.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sherri Strange; daughter, Charla Moyer (David); daughter, Christie Estes (Chad); three grandsons, Dylan Moyer, Jonathan Moyer, and Luke Moyer; sister, Hazel Oaks (Jim); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Encompass Hospice Care and Hearts of Angels Home Care. Donna Rodgers and Denise Davis-Coar worked tirelessly to support him and care for him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. A Service of Remembrance for Curtis will be Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home in Pelham, followed by the graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, Alabama. Pallbearers will be Reid Laporte, Clint Lott, Mike Schmidt, Tim Jenkins, Wallace Harrison, and Chris Anderson.
