August 20, 1949 - December 29, 2016 Ron Sumners passed away in his home in Meadow Brook early Thursday morning, December 29th. Ron was born on August 20th, 1949 to James Clyde and Virginia Ann Sumners. He graduated from Vincent High School in 1967 and attended Samford University, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in History and Religion. He went to Southern Seminary for his Masters in Divinity, and Southwestern for his Doctorate in Ministry-- a true reflection of his love of learning. Ron served churches in Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Alabama. He retired from Meadow Brook Baptist Church after 19 years as its pastor. He had a heart for missions and traveled the world carrying the gospel throughout his life. His love for the Lord was constantly demonstrated by his love for his family, his dedication to his congregation, and the way he cared for others. Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Elliott "Prissy" Sumners; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Katherine "Katie" Sumners and Johnathan Kostakis; son, Samuel Elliott Sumners; brother and sister-in-law Joe and Lynn Sumners; and both parents. Ron will be memorialized with a service on December 31st at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wee Care Ministry at Vestavia Hills or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of Ron's daughter Katie.
