

Ronnie "Ron" Leon Smith, age 72, of Birmingham, Al passed away on October 5, 2021. He was born on January 8, 1949 to Mr. Leon and Mrs. Marjorie Smith in Ozark, Al. Ron was a 1967 graduate of Carroll High School, and then went on to serve 6 years in the National Guard. He attended aviation school at Wallace. Ron worked at Fort Rucker with Hays Aircraft as an aircraft mechanic, and then became the business owner of German Swede Enterprises in Birmingham.
He had a passion for hunting, fishing, boating, scuba diving, and even dabbled in a little of amateur cooking.
Ron enjoyed Alabama football and car races. Some of his favorite past times included attending car and gun shows, and you might even catch him dancing from time to time. An important part of Ron's life was being a Master Mason through The York Rite.
Ron is preceded in death by his father, Leon Kellon Smith; step-father, Roy Blink.
He leaves behind his wife of 35 years Sheryl Smith; mother, Marjorie Jenkins Smith Blink; daughter, Kellie Dingus (Jon); grandchildren, Ella Rose Daube, Sara Grace Dingus; Sisters, Cheryl Brown (Jimmy) and Lana Smith; nieces and nephews, Brittany, Austin, Caroline, Jacey, Krystal, Donnie, Bobby, Stephanie, and Bart.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Reception to follow service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Shelby County Humane Society.
