

Born on August 22, 1929, in Durant, Mississippi, Ruby Jean Cooper was the daughter of Jefferson Davis Cooper and Ada Clyde Driskell Cooper. She graduated from Durant High School and continued her education at the University of Alabama.
On July 24, 1947, she married the love of her life, William Creede Martin, Jr. Together they built a life centered on family. Ruby embraced her role as a homemaker, raising both of her sons with love.
Ruby was an active member of Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church and was instrumental in her husband's Christian development which resulted in his becoming a Gideon. In her spare time, she enjoyed golf and playing bridge.
Ruby is survived by her sons, William “Bill” C. Martin III (Susan) and Jed C. Martin (Sally); her grandchildren, Rachel Warriner (Will) and Meredith Wheeler (Travis); and her great-granddaughter, Rosalind Martin Warriner.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Creede Martin, Jr.; her parents, Jefferson Davis Cooper and Ada Clyde Driskell Cooper; her brother, Jefferson Davis Cooper, Jr.; and her sister, Mary Cooper Stringer.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of the Hoover Aspire and Physical Recovery Center and The Oaks on Parkwood for their loving care extended to Ruby in her final days.
A visitation will be held on June 19, 2026, at Southern Heritage Funeral Home from 10:00-11:00 AM with a service at 11:00 AM. A graveside committal will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gideons Jefferson East, 3604 Chaumont Dr, Vestavia, AL 35223.
