

The oldest son of Kelly and Jackie Johnson, he was born in Mobile Alabama on Feb 21, 1953. At an early age he attended church at Forest Park Bible Church with his mother and made many lifelong friends there. He graduated from Ben C. Rain High School and attended Auburn University, for which he was a lifelong fan. He later went on to work in the Electricians Union I.B.E.W.505 , a career path that his father, grandfather and uncles had also chosen before him. Both of his sons also work in the electrical profession. A true lover of history, and particularly our local Mobile history, he could make any drive through town a teachable moment with random facts and points of interest about his beloved city. Alongside Mobile history, his interest for aviation, politics, local folklore and all thing botanical made for an interesting discussion. His depth of knowledge on any number of topics made any conversation interesting, but being known as a jokester to his family, his subtle wink and grin were the only hint that he might be getting something passed you at the Sunday dinner table.
An avid lover of all things costal, He enjoyed sailing in the Mobile Bay and loved being a part of the Buccaneer Yacht Club. Russell was father to Scott and Nicholas Johnson, and participated in the local Boy Scouts program with them, helping both to attain high levels in that program. He also encouraged both boys in sports and was always available to help when needed. Russell had a large circle of friends, both on the parkway and beyond, and was known to offer a hand to people, with advice or assistance when needed. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his brother Steven Johnson. He is survived by his sister, Amy J Williams (Billy) his sons Scott (Alicia) Johnson, Nicholas (Morgan) Johnson, grandchildren Nathan Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Peyton Johnson, Blake Johnson, and one granddaughter Reese Johnson, nephew Zachary Williams and niece, Tori Nelson.
