Ruth Vincent Chapman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Vincent Chapman (Babe) peacefully in her home on January 31, 2015. She was born on February 9, 1926, in Birmingham, Alabama, where she spent her entire life.

Ruth was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired from AT&T after 35 years as a Service Analyst, after which she enjoyed many years spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Lawson Vincent and Mrs. Bonnie Vincent; son, Mr. James Chapman, Jr.; granddaughter, Ms. Shawn Sumners; and sister, Mrs. Pat Olin. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Powers and Patti (Frank) Griffin, and daughter-in-law, Beth Chapman, all of Hoover; two granddaughters, Nicole (Christopher) Watkins, of Birmingham, and Amelia (Donald) Battle, of Bluff Park; two grandsons, Taylor and Thatcher Chapman, of Hoover; a niece, Charlotte (Lee) Rambin, of Houston, Texas; and six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. We will miss her smile, her warmth, and her kind and giving heart. She was truly a one-of-a-kind person, an angel who will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.
