HILL, RUTH ELLEN, age 62, of Hoover, Alabama died on Sunday, January 31, 2010. She was born on November 24, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio. Ruthie and her husband, David Hill, moved to the Birmingham, Alabama area in 1991 for his employment with Altec Industries.A graduate of Piqua High School in Piqua, Ohio, Ruthie influenced the lives of many people, especially through her love and care for young children. She and David have been members of Valleydale Church in Birmingham for almost 10 years.In addition to her husband, David, survivors include Ruthie's parents, Janet Patterson and Donald Fair; one daughter, Jenni Rawlings (Darryl); one son, Scott Hill (Sarah); a nephew, Chris Matson; seven grandchildren, Cori, Duke, Cade, Nick, Zack, Ace, and McCauley; and two sisters, Linda Smith (Mike) and Sandra Rivers.Ruthie was preceded in death by her step-father, James Patterson.Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. the same day in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Dr. Calvin Kelly will officiate.
