Her death came on November 23, 2020 after a lengthy illness.
Odell was the third of twelve children born to Roscoe and Edna Seals. As one of the
older children, she was often relied upon by family members for her advice and counsel.
All her life she was a help to both family members and friends alike.
Following the births of her five children, Odell resumed her education by attending
Continental Business School where she was instructed in typing, business math, and
switchboard operating. Ambitious and hard-working, she received her GED and then
enrolled at Jefferson State Junior College where she completed her Associate in Arts
Degree.
At one time Odell worked as a licensed beautician. However, for 20 years, she owned
and operated a daycare center on Tyler Road called Young World where she interacted
with many children and families of the Bluff Park area of Hoover. Highly regarded for
her devotion to the needs of children, Odell was well-respected as a caring individual.
In the late 1950s Odell became a member of the Bluff Park Baptist Church in Hoover,
where she maintained her life-long membership. She belonged to a Sunday School class
and the Women’s Missionary Union. She was also a member of the Bluff Park Shepherd
Center, as well as the New Horizon Senior Citizens Center of Hoover. Her favorite
pastime was doing arts, crafts, and ceramics.
Odell was preceded in death by her husband, John D., who died in 1997. She is survived
by two sons: J. B. Frith (Lynn) and John Wayne Frith; three daughters: Florence Frith
Hall (Robert), Linda English (husband, Larry), and Pamela Frith; four grandsons: Robert
Hall, II; John Hall; Jason Frith; and Danny Farley; two granddaughters: Alicia Rice and
Jennifer Frith; thirteen great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren; and one
brother, Sidney Seals (Wanda) of Leeds.
