Salvador A. Marino, age 91, native and life-long resident of the Birmingham, AL area, passed away March 16, 2019.

Sal was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and a former, long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he was elected the first president of the Parish Council. He served as chairman and a member of many church and school committees fostering the spiritual and temporal well-being of the parish and school. He served on the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham lay board and school board.

Sal was a graduate of Auburn University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was elected to engineering honor societies, Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi, and university honor society Phi Kappi Phi. He retired from Alabama Power Company as Manager of Electric System Planning after 37 years of service. He was a professional engineer in the State of Alabama and a member of the national Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Sal was co-founder and member of Power Investors, an investment club. An APCO Employees Credit Union volunteer for 59 years, he served as a Director on the Board, Chairman, Vice-Chairman and member of various Credit Union committees. He believed in the Credit Union philosophy, “People helping people.”

Sal served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He was also a retired real estate agent.

He will be remembered for his exemplary character, enormous integrity, underlying faith and love, mentorship, and commitment to God, family and friends. His memory will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Sal was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Marino, and two sisters, Marie Pitts and Annie Mae Piazza.

Survivors include Sal's wife of 67 years, Josephine Musso Marino; three sons, Archbishop Joseph Marino, Anthony and Sal (Paula); as well as five grandchildren, Patrick, Christopher (their mother, Teresa), Olivia, Salena and Isabella; and a sister, Bena Marino.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at the church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 5514 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, AL 35242.
