Sherri Diane French Roper, age 75 of Alabaster, AL, passed away on May 31, 2026. She was born to Tommy and Peggy Sams on May 30, 1951, in Waynesville, NC. She graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton, Virginia. After marrying Greg French on August 8, 1969, and moving to Wisconsin, she worked as a bank teller. Some time later they became proud parents to their son, Jason French. Staying at home with Jason became her dream job. Then in his adolescent years, she spent her time facilitating the concession stand and working beside Greg to make sure the ballfield was ready for ballgames, laughter, cracking bats, and good food. Many happy years were spent at the ballfield, Sherri would always say. Upon the death of her husband, Greg, Sherri continued supporting her son as he went on to play baseball at The University of Montevallo. She was a strong lady who cherished memories of a wonderful life. Later, Sherri married Paul Roper on February 14, 1998, until her death. She loved life, talking to her mom, relaxing with a good book, doing projects around the house, visiting her neighbor, traveling to visit family, steak, peanut butter pie, Elvis, and her babies (the grandkids).
She is preceded in death by her father, Tommy Floyd Sams, and her sister, Juanita Lilley.
Sherri leaves behind her son, Jason Edward French, mother, Peggy Caroline Mooney, grandchildren, Lily Grace Brown (Matt), Gregory Edward French, and Henshaw Pierson French; and her brother, Ronnie Sams.
The family will have a private graveside service in her honor.
