Sonja devoted her career to elementary education, spending many years working with the Birmingham Board of Education and the State of Georgia Department of Education. Teaching was never just a job to her. She loved her students fiercely and many lives are better because of her.
In her spare time, she spent her Sundays worshipping at Oak Grove First Baptist Church. She was also a member of Road Scholar.
Sonja had a passion for God, her church, baseball, watching her grandchildren participate in whatever activities they loved, going to the gym, Snoopy and Peanuts comics, lighthouses, Eeyore, coloring, sending cards to loved ones, and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Chester Reed and Edith Thelma Reed (Shoemaker) and her husband of many years, Dale Gene Wescott.
She is survived by her children, Samantha Wescott Dial and Roger (Rachel) Wescott; her grandchildren, Lilly Lyn Dial, Jasmine Marie Dial, Ryan Roger Wescott, and Reagan Renee Wescott; her siblings, Andrea (Lou) Bruns, John (Judy) Reed, and Becky (Ronald) Lewis, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
