Stanley was born in Keystone, Alabama on June 28, 1950 and was a lifelong resident of Shelby County. Stanley graduated from Thompson High School. He loved living in Alabaster and when he traveled, he always said the best part of traveling was coming home to Alabaster.
Stanley joined the Alabaster Police Force in May, 1972. Over the years he worked his way up; patrolman, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Chief. He loved his job and continued doing it for 40 years. After accepting Christ as his personal Savior in 1981, Stanley served as Chaplain in the department for many years. He considered this his 'calling.' He was honored in 2004 by being chosen to attend the FBI Academy in Quantico and survived running the Yellow Brick Road.
Stanley was a member of Westwood Baptist Church for 34 years. He was an ordained deacon and a parking lot greeter. He loved meeting people in the parking lot on Sundays and talking to them before they entered church. He also loved sharing his testimony by going around to different churches and even on television.
Stanley was a wonderful husband and father. He enjoyed coaching his sons in baseball and taking them fishing. He loved his daughter and in his eyes she could do no wrong. He mentored many of his children's friends and opened his house to any of them whenever needed. Stanley was very much in love with his wife after 43 years of marriage. He loved his friends and family and told them that often. No one can fill the void left in our lives by his passing and we will miss him greatly for the rest of our lives.
Stanley was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Hardemon; father, Elmo Oliver and mother-in-law, Virginia Miller. He is survived by his adoring wife, Linda; daughter, Farrah Baker (Brian); sons, Stan Oliver, Jr. (Chera), Jonathon Oliver and Michael Oliver; sisters, Brenda Payne and Linda Leader (Scott); brothers, William Oliver (Jan) and Ronald Oliver.
