Stephen Mitchell Jones

Stephen "Steve" Mitchell Jones, age 57, of Birmingham, Alabama was born November 9, 1954 and passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer this past year. Steve is survived by his wife Joann Jones, sons Mitch Jones (wife Domini) and Wes Jones, and grandsons Lawson and Hudson Jones, all of Birmingham; and brother Roger Jones of Austin, TX. Also survived by mother-in-law Barbara McCormick, brothers-in-law, John Girace, John Bouder (wife Traci), Paul Girace, and Keefer Sloane; and many other loving relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents Gene and Elease Jones of Decatur, Alabama and son Brandon Jones. Steve was a 1973 graduate of Austin High School in Decatur, Alabama, where he was a member of the 4A Basketball State Championship Team his senior year. He was a 1977 graduate of the University of Alabama and a graduate of the Birmingham School of Law. Lifetime employee and In-House Counsel of UAB Medical West, formerly Bessemer Carraway. Longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church (OLV) in Birmingham and member of the adult choir. Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Prayer service immediately following. A funeral mass will be Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 10 a.m., also at OLV. An additional visitation will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Basham Chapel United Methodist Church in Decatur with burial to follow at Basham Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mark McClanahan, Ricky Stukes, Mike Morris, Jim Clarkson, Butch Waterson, Alan Carter, Sam Chiarella, and Kim Kohler. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to OLV Choirs, Knights of Columbus Council 9676, or Basham Chapel United Methodist Church.
