While we miss him, but we're happy he is healthy now and making music for Jesus!
He was known as Dad, Pops, Mr. Mac, and the Rhythm-Meister. Steve was born to William and Geraldine McClendon on August 30, 1956 in Birmingham, AL. He was a graduate of Berry High School. Steve then went on to obtain a Bachelors of Education from UAB, and then received his masters in Library Science from Jacksonville University. He was a teacher and elementary school librarian at Greenwood Elementary in Bessemer, and Vincent Elementary in Shelby Co. He had a passion for people, children, the Lord and music. Steve was known for playing several instruments including drums and percussion, and many other instruments as well. He often had the honor of being asked to be a worship leader.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Ann McClendon; son, Michael McClendon (Meredith); grandchildren, Phoebe Jane and Ira Jude McClendon; sister, Becky Nesmith; niece, Noelle Stewart; nephew, Scott Nesmith, and numerous cousins.
Friends and loved ones are encouraged to watch the memorial service on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. via Facebook live on Southern Heritage's Facebook page to stay safe during this difficult time. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date in the summer.
