She attended high school in Miami, Florida and then went on to further her education at Talladega College, Boise State University, University of Miami, and St. Thomas University where she earned a M.A in Education and Specialist degree.
Thelma White was united in holy matrimony with former spouse, Charles Horton. Their union was blessed with three children, Corrine, Tiffany, and Charles.
As a skilled writer and retired educator, Thelma’s love of life will not end with her death. Her early years were grounded in pursuing her education and modeling. Throughout her life, she expressed a love for teaching children and enjoyed helping those in need. Her passion led to owning and operating a successful daycare and after school care business named “Hi School Daycare Center” for a period of time. Later in life she continued to care for adults who struggled with job placement or had difficult life histories by providing guidance and support. Often viewed as eccentric, Thelma had a gentle heart with an incredible sense of humor and had a remarkable approach to life.
Thelma was an avid reader who devoured books, loved food (but couldn’t cook), loved music (often dragging unwitting partners to dance around the room), loved to sing (and was pretty good), loved the ocean (but couldn’t swim), and loved her children (who loved her back). Her unique outlook on life, religion, politics, the human condition, and her strength will be missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Corrine, Tiffany, and Charles; along with grandson, Daniel.
It was Thelma’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of a charitable donation to a nonprofit education organization such as Jumpstart, TNTP, Education Trust, UNICEF or Khan Academy.
