Thomas Franklin Wilkes

Thomas Franklin Wilkes, age 81 of Hoover, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015. He retired from Jefferson State Junior College and Shelby Hospital. He is remembered as a loving, devoted husband, son and father. He is preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Edna Earle Fleming Wilkes; and brother, Jack Earle Wilkes of Dothan, AL. Tommy enjoyed retirement time with his wife, Charlotte, and entertaining his grandchildren. He had an insatiable curiosity and enthusiasm for many things, including Star Trek, Egyptian artifacts and Alabama football.

Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife of 35 years, Charlotte Arnold Wilkes and daughters, Robin Celeste Wilkes of Franklin, TN; Ronna Wilkes Michaels (Ken) of Hoover, AL; Rachel Wilkes McCrorie (David) of Hoover, AL; Ramona DeLane Wilkes of Nashville, TN; Rebecca Wilkes Macks (Rusty) of Montevallo, AL; and Ramsi Fleming Wilkes of Alabaster, AL. He is also loved and will be greatly missed by his nine grandchildren, Ashlyn McCrorie Byrd (Tim), John David McCrorie III, Christa Rachel McCrorie, Kendall Anne Michaels, Carter Rains Michaels, Alden Connor Michaels, Justin Arthur Macks, Alexis Nicole Wilkes and Joseph Thomas Macks.

Tommy’s life will be celebrated at a graveside service at 2pm on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Southern Heritage Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday evening at Southern Heritage Funeral Home.
