Tommie Ann McCarty Doles

She was born one of nine children on September 10, 1945, in West Jefferson, Alabama. Tommie met and married Curtis O. Doles, and together they were blessed with three children.

She loved her children fiercely and worked very hard to give them everything they wanted. Tommie was happy to stand back and give her children the stage while cheering and doting on everything they did. She was so incredibly proud of each of them. As much as she loved her children, her grandchildren were the most important. She was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as MeMaw and Granny; because only truly special grandmothers have two names. Tommie struggled with the concept of tough love. She loved and accepted her entire family, despite their quirks and disfunction. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, got angry with them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them.

She was greeted at Heaven’s gates by her parents, Fred & Maude McCarty; her siblings, Fred Jr; Johnnie Reeder; Bud McCarty (Louella); Glynn McCarty; Wayne McCarty; Jayne “Sissy” Hyde; and Billie Lou McQueen (Howard); along with her ex-husband, Curtis O. Doles. We are positive they’re up there giving one another a hard time and loving each other.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her three children, Jody (Bernadette) Doles; Cody (Maggie) Doles; and Misty (Mark) Busic; grandchildren, Gage (Brooklyn) Busic; Harper Busic; Cody Doles; Kayla Milam; Ashley Doles; Jodi (Jonathan) Pittman; and many great-grandchildren, including her newest great-grandbaby, Dani Busic, who brought her so much joy the past three months. She is also survived by her brother, Donald “Bit” (Peggy Sue) McCarty, and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A service will be held at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 4:00 pm. A visitation will follow.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Providence Hospital and the 5 North ICU nurses and doctors who cared for her with compassion and love.
