Tommie Peete Langston of Maylene, Alabama went to be with her heavenly father on April, 25, 2024, at the age of 86. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, as well as a dear friend to many.
She was born in 1937 to Tom and Lunice Peete in Underwood, Alabama. She attended Montevallo High School and Alabama college which would later become the University of Montevallo, where she studied Early Childhood Education.
In 1959 she married Tommy Langston and they had two children, Steve and Kathy. Tommie's passion for children led to a career centered around child care, working in Birmingham area day care centers in both teaching and directing roles.
Tommie and Tommy resided in Homewood many years before moving to Maylene to be closer to family in Underwood. Tommie was an active member of her church, The First Baptist Church of Birmingham, a member of the Faith Sunday School class. When poor health would no longer allow her to attend church in person, she enjoyed watching livestream broadcasts of the weekly Sunday services on television.
Tommie is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Lunice Peete; husband, Tommy; son-in-law, Mike Adkins; brother, Ben Peete and sister, Lola Kline Newsom.
She is survived by her son, Steve Langston (Kelly) of Calera; daughter, Kathy Adkins of Maylene; grandson, Kevin Adkins of Bessemer, a niece and several nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving friendship and care given by Debbie McRee over the last years of Tommie's life.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, at 11:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. A burial will immediately follow at Montevallo City Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
