Valeria Aine Paulin passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the age of 89. She was born in Rome, Italy to Orsola Arinci Pecci and Assuero Pecci, and there she met and married a 23-year-old American soldier named Roland Leobardo Paulin. He was stationed in Italy during the Italian Campaign of WWII. After the war ended, at the age of 21, Valeria immigrated to the United States as part of the War Brides and raised five boys in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Arrivederci Mom, you were one of a kind. We will miss your spirit, your humor, and old Italian ways. . . and yes, we closed the "icaboxa." Valeria is survived by her children, Robert, Phillip, Mark, Richard and Larry; and three grandchildren, Jason, Lauren and Joey. The visitation will be one hour before the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama. The 11:30 a.m. graveside service will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery on Highway 119 in Pelham, Alabama.
