Mr. Knight passed away at age 90. He was born April 15, 1923 in Sunburst, North Carolina, and was the son of Adam and Nola Knight. He served four years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He met and married Anna Faye McKay in Fresno, California.
Mr. Knight was a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a Master’s degree in Forest Resources. He worked for Kimberly-Clark Corporation for 39 years, serving as Director of Natural Resources in Neenah, Wisconsin, President of Kimberly-Clark Fiber Supply and Research in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and a Corporate Vice President in Birmingham, Alabama.
Boy Scouts of America was an important part of Mr. Knight's life. While serving as Vice President of the Choccolocco Council, he was presented with the Silver Beaver Award. He was a man of strong religious faith, and was a member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Knight was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by Faye, his loving wife of 65 years; two sons, Vernon J. Knight, Jr. (Judith) and Geoffrey F. Knight (Suzanne); one daughter, Jane Knight Culler (John); seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother and sister, Wallace S. Knight (Ruby) and Jennie Ruby Knight, both of Canton, North Carolina. Mr. Knight was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Nola Knight; brother, Adam R. Knight; and sister, Annie Virginia Knight.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. memorial service on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Birmingham.
