Virginia Ann Bonham

Virginia Ann Courson Bonham, 92, of Shelby County, Alabama passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022. She was born September 1, 1930 in Irondale, Alabama to Vera Bagley Courson and Henry Garrett Courson.

Virginia met the love of her life, Louis Bonham, on November 7, 1948. He had just returned from serving in the U.S. Marines. After dating her last year of high school, they married August 6, 1948. They raised three children: Leslie Medlock (Jack), Louis "Sunny" Bonham Jr., and Richard Bonham.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; and two of her children, Leslie and Louis Jr.

Survivors include Virginia's son, Richard of Pelham, Alabama; son-in-law, Jack Medlock; her sister, Cindy Coates (Rayburn) of Montevallo, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Mark Medlock (Shana) of Phoenix, Arizona, Adam Medlock of Chelsea, Alabama, David Medlock of Jacksonville, Florida, and Daniel Bonham (Emma), Julia Bonham, Sarah Bonham, and Andrew Bonham, all four of Pelham; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Rachel Medlock of Chelsea, Adrian and Alistair Bonham of Pelham, and Hailes and Brooke Medlock of Jacksonville; one great-great-grandchild, Vanessa Medlock of Jacksonville; and may special friends, all members of Christ Church United Methodist Church of Birmingham, Alabama.

It was said that Virginia had Crimson Blood as she was an avid Alabama fan, being a member of the Alumni Association. She also managed to touch countless hearts along her path which will always endure.

Family and friends will gather for visitation Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham from 12 noon to 1 p.m., immediately followed by A Service of Remembrance for Virginia at 1 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. The private gravesite committal service will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Rev. Jimmy Aycock will officiate.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Barton, Barry Dean, Mark Frederick, C.J. O'Neil, Steven Thrash, and Wesley Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Bonham, Daniel Bonham, Kenneth Carter, Kerry Carter, Adam Medlock, David Medlock, and Mark Medlock.
