Virginia Fant Mayfield

Virginia Fant Mayfield passed away on February 17, 2023. She was born on August 1, 1929 to Charles and Gladys Fant in Birmingham, AL. She graduated from Jones Valley High School and was a long time member of Powderly Baptist Church. In addition to serving as President of the PTA for NH Price Elementary school and choir member at Powderly Baptist Church, she had a successful career in banking and insurance, spending the majority of her career at Birmingham Trust National Bank. She also received great joy from her retirement position as a carousel greeter at the Galleria for several years.

Mrs. Mayfield is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Cleon Mayfield; parents, Charles and Gladys Fant; sister Peggy (Hugh) Woods; and grandson, Oliver Ryan Mayfield.

She is survived by her daughter, Loretta M. Rowan; son James D. Mayfield; grandsons Justin Mayfield (Suzanne) and Austin Mayfield; sister Judy Douglass (Walt); brother Steve Fant; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, step grandchildren and friends.

The celebration of Mrs. Mayfield’s life will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a visitation one hour prior to the service. The family sends a special thank you to Katie Watkins and Amedisys for the loving care provided to Mrs. Mayfield in her final months.
