VW Lynn, age 89, slid into Heaven’s home plate on Friday, June 22, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Dunnavant Valley, Alabama. He would laughingly refer to himself as a ridge runner helping his dad run a pulp mill as a boy.
As a young man, "Bill" joined the U.S. Air Force and traveled the world. After 24 years of service, he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant and returned home. He told everyone he had married the prettiest girl and the love of his life, Edna Earl. These two spent almost 66 years together making memories.
This daddy/PawPaw/Uncle Bill also loved his two girls, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His love extended beyond his family. He made everyone feel welcomed and special. He was known for his “stories” and jokes. Retirement allowed him to experience his true passion. He loved being outside riding his old tractor. He will be greatly missed.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Floyd and Macie Lynn, and two brothers-in-law, Coolidge Isbell and Corry Hutchens.
Survivors include Bill's wife, Edna E. Lynn; two daughters, Pamela Akers Carpenter (Ralph) and Debby Lynn Blackmon (Scott); four grandchildren, Brad Akers (Auneca), Laura Venegoni (John), Austin Brooks (Lindsay), and Cameron Brooks (Gabbi); six great-grandchildren, Isabella Venegoni, Nate Akers, Luke Akers, Charli Kate Venegoni, Kennedy Lynn Brooks, and David Brooks; three sisters, Virginia Hutchens, Shirley Hutchens (A.C.), and Frances Isbell; one brother, George Lynn (Evelyn); and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Paul Colburn, a Lynn family member and a young missionary, will officiate at Mr. Lynn’s memorial service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. Before the service, the family will greet friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to a mission group that VW Lynn supported. Meta Camp shares the gospel in Peru. Checks made to Online Support Meta Camp, www.big.life/team/paul.colburn/ or mailed to 8491 Highway 49 South, Dadeville, AL 36853.
