W. Ray Powell age 82, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on Sunday morning, August 18, 2013. Originally from Chattanooga, TN, he graduated from UTC and served in the U.S. Army in The Counter Intelligence Corp. Ray was a Deacon of Riverchase Baptist Church. He retired as Senior Vice President for Morgan Stanley after 20 years of service. Ray loved his faith, family and friends – and having fun- with great passion and was an inspiration to all that knew him; he also loved the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Powell; sons, Greg (Peggy) Powell and Jeffrey Powell; grandchildren, Sara, Audrey and Lydia Powell; sisters, Mary Joyce (J.W.) Toomey and Linda Faye Dukes. Celebration of Mr. Powell’s life will be at Southern Heritage Funeral Home August 21, 2013 at 12:30pm. Rev. Jeff Greer officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday 11:00-12:30 at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Riverchase Baptist Church 2020 Crossvine Road, Hoover, Al 35244 in Ray's memory.
