

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Churchill Buckner, Birmingham; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Buckner, grandchildren Katarina Hill and Benjamin Hill, Kansas City, MO; brothers, Jeff (Mary Ann) Buckner, Ballwin, MO; Mark (Kathy), Arnold, MO; sister, Carolyn (David) Buckner Fulk; and beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wyman Wayne Buckner and Margaret LaVerne Travis, and his wife Lynda Whitaker Buckner.
Wally chose to live life with gratitude. He was known for his love of music, art, books, family, family history and the stories behind them, and was often kidded about his archival organization. He was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, Birmingham, and previously All Saints Episcopal Church, Atlanta.
He was a graduate of William Jewel College, Liberty, MO; Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, MO; with additional work at San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA.
Before his retirement from the Home Mission Board, Atlanta, GA, he served on church staffs in Lubbock, TX and San Francisco, CA, and was later employed at Sertec, Corp, Atlanta. After his retirement he was self-employed as a video editor and producer.
Visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Rd, Pelham, Al, 35214, Friday, March 3 from 5:00-7:00 pm. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, 2600 Vestavia Drive, Birmingham, AL, 35216, Saturday, March 4 at 1:00 pm, with visitation following the service.
