Reverend Wayne Alan Owen, a long time resident of Birmingham, AL, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 25, 2018. He was born in Birmingham on July 17, 1945 to Jewel McGraw Owen, and graduated Tarrant High School in 1963.

Wayne attended Howard College (now Samford University), and then Auburn University where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1968. He was married to Marion Virginia Hicks for 51 years, and they had two children, Holly Virginia and Suzanne Marion.

Wayne worked for Bellsouth for 28 years in Birmingham, and in Memphis, TN. After taking early retirement, he helped start two software companies, and went back to school at Birmingham Theological Seminary, where he received his MDiv in 2006. He then worked as an assistant pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church.

Wayne was a faithful member of several churches throughout his life including Lakewood Baptist, Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church (Germantown, TN), and Faith Presbyterian Church. He served many roles in the churches he attended, including elder, small group leader, and Sunday School teacher. He also taught a Bible study to young boys in the inner-city of Birmingham for five years, led a Bible Study for four years at Ridgeview Rehab and Nursing, and went on several mission trips to Ecuador.

Wayne enjoyed woodworking and sailing. He is remembered for his faithfulness as a husband and father, his love for his Savior Jesus Christ, his excellence as a Bible teacher, and his remarkable intelligence.

Wayne was predeceased by his mother, Jewel McGraw Owen. He is survived by his loving wife, Marion; his daughters, Holly and Suzanne; his grandchildren, Parker Setran, Anna Joy Setran, Owen Setran, Emily Setran, Hudson Jones, Mary Holland Jones, Owen Jones, and Oliver Jones; and his sister, Linda Davis.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Forest Hill Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4601 Valleydale Road, Birmingham, AL 35242.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church.
