William "Bill" Andrus

Bill was predeceased by his mother, Gussie O. Jackson, father, Francis H. Andrus, step-fathers, Garland Jackson and Raymond Nelson, his mother-in-law, Eva E. Gay, and nieces, Tanya and Theresa Andrus.

He is survived by his adored wife of 42 years, Martha Key Andrus, and his beloved son, William Blake Andrus, his brother, Francis H. (Frank) Andrus, Jr. (Decatur, AL), his sister, Jere Andrus Roberts (Shelbyville, TN.), his half- brother, Rt. Rev. Marc Andrus (Sheila) (CA), and half-sister, Barbara Foster (David)( TN), 4 nieces, a nephew and great nieces and nephews.

Bill was a high-energy person. A dapper dresser, who enjoyed fast boats, nice cars, fishing, the beach, their lake homes, and, in his younger days, playing tennis, snow skiing, and water skiing. He worked out at his gym almost every day for his entire life until illness prevented it.

Bill was born in Abbeville, LA, but lived in Birmingham most of his life. He graduated from West End High School in 1961 and attended Jacksonville State University where he majored in Business.

One of Bill’s gifts was salesmanship . He was in sales for Pitney Bowes, Xerox, and in the medical arena which was his life’s work for twenty years. He loved the challenging nature of the medical community.

Bill attended Meadow Brook Baptist Church where he developed a close relationship with Chris Jones, Senior Pastor, who was faithful in spiritually ministering to him during his illness.

The family thanks Chris Jones, the Meadow Brook Baptist Church family, Hope Hospice, and especially dear friends, John Watley, Jim Daugherty, and David Adair, who took Bill for rides when he could no longer drive. Bill was blessed by having so many dear family members and friends who either visited or called to share memories with him. Thank you to everyone who lifted up Bill and Martha in prayer.

Funeral services will be Sunday July 31,2016, at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 1:00 and service at 2:00. Graveside to follow at Southern Heritage.
