

William L. Caldwell died quietly on Friday, March 4, 2016 with his family by his side after a series of health problems over the past 15 years. Bill was a retired United Steelworkers of America International Union Staff Representative with 22 years of service. He was an Elder of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was a member for 61 years. During his young adult life he was a leader of New Hope’s Explorer Post BSA winning many awards and competitions. Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother, Benjamin Lloyd Caldwell and Margaret Stella Bailey Caldwell; special uncle and aunt, Robert and Mary Caldwell; son, David Randall Caldwell; step grandson, Joseph Phelps. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Reba Bailey Caldwell; sons, William L. Caldwell Jr. (Kim), Rod Stewart Caldwell; granddaughters, Shelby Caldwell Jones (Nick); Hayley Caldwell; step grandson, Matthew Phelps; brothers, Ronald Thomas Caldwell of Leeds and Erwin Caldwell (Jere) of Birmingham. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Shelby County Humane Society. A funeral service will be Monday March 7, 2016 at the Church at 12:00 noon, with visitation starting at 10:00 am. Rev. Donny Acton officiating. Burial will follow at Croft Acton Cemetery on Old Rocky Ridge Road.
