

William Roy Cherry, Jr. died on September 30, 2020. He was born in Dothan, AL on November 10, 1926. Roy was a proud alumni of the University of Alabama, where he received his Bachelor’s and Law degree. After graduation, he joined the military where he served in Army Intelligence and was a French and German Linguist. He studied French at the Language School of Monterey, CA and German at the Language School in Oberammergau, Germany. Following his discharge, he began his career in insurance at State Farm where he worked for 37 years. While at State Farm, Roy received his CPCU designation. He retired in 1992 as Superintendent of Automobile Claims.
Roy spent his retirement years taking trips with his family and enjoying time with his grandchildren. He attended many Alabama football games, as well as Alabama basketball and gymnastics. He traveled throughout the U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska. He and Charlotte traveled the world going to China, Egypt, Peru, South Africa, Costa Rica, Europe, and The British Isles.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, William Roy Cherry and Lois Estelle Nolan and his first wife Charlotte Cox Cherry. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Charlotte Siener Cherry; brother, Gerald Cherry (Joy) of Dothan, AL, daughters Julianne Cherry Vaughn of Millbrook, AL; Jan Marie Cherry of Ft Worth, TX; son William Roy Cherry, III (Tina) of Hoover, AL. Roy has four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on October 5, 2020 at 10:00 am at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama. Graveside Service will be held on October 5, 2020 at 11:00 am at Southern Heritage Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama.
