"Bill" graduated from West End High School. The U.S. military veteran's professional career was with State Farm Insurance, most recently serving as Claims Superintendent. He was a member of the Civitans, and enjoyed woodworking and cheering for Alabama Crimson Tide Football.
Survivors include Bill's wife, Peggy Viola Fletcher Fields, to whom he was married on June 18, 1953; two daughters, Dianne Fields Vaughn (Austin) and Luanne Fields Miller (Keene); grandchildren, Sara Marie Miller, Molly Vaughn Norwood, and William Sutherland Miller; and one great-grandson, Thomas Brooks Norwood.
The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Bill's home church, Bluff Park United Methodist Church, 733 Valley Street, Birmingham, AL 35226. Dr. Reid Crotty will officiate.
