

William Watts Morgan, Jr. (Bill), age 98, passed away at his retirement home in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday, April 15, 2017. He was born January 17, 1919, in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents were William Watts Morgan, Sr. and Eva Bizzell Stocks. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Edith Anderson Morgan. He had three children: William Watts Morgan, III (Susan) of Fairhope, Alabama; Robert Tracy Morgan (Susan) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; and Patti Morgan Price (Marion) of Birmingham, Alabama. He was a devoted “granddaddy” to seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Bill was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Georgia Tech University and worked for the Southern Railroad before volunteering for the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp from 1942 until 1946. He then attended the University of Georgia, obtaining his B.S. degree in Management in 1948. In June 1950, he obtained his Master’s degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. In 1954, he moved to Auburn, Alabama to become a Professor of Industrial Engineering at Auburn University. He then worked as Auburn University’s Safety Engineer until he retired in 1983.
After moving to Birmingham, he attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church. He resided at Somerby retirement facility until his passing. Bill loved to travel, loved to dance and loved his family. His zest for life was an inspiration to all that knew him.
Visitation will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 6555 Cahaba Valley Road (Hwy 119), Birmingham, Alabama, Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 3:00 p.m., prior to the funeral, which will be at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at Auburn Memorial Gardens, in Auburn, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church or Disabled American Veterans.
