

Duff loved Jesus, family, friends, and all creatures. He graduated from Mountain Brook High School, Auburn University and Faulkner University Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. His 30 year career in law enforcement included positions with Lee County Sheriff's Office, Auburn Police Department, New Orleans Police Department, Alabama Department of Conservation and Midfield Police Department. He practiced law in Bessemer and was a member of the Alabama and Bessemer Bar Association.
Duff had a generous spirit and throughout his life consistently helped strangers, friends, family, and animals. He enjoyed western themed books and movies, Auburn sports, target practice, Boy Scouts, the great outdoors, hunting, camping and good food. Duff also loved his numerous pets-horses, dogs, and cats-and many of them were rescued.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Debra Cross Quenelle, sister, Anne Q. Beving (Terry), nephew, James Hunter Campbell, brother-in-law, Dr. DeWitte Talmadge Cross III (Anne), niece, Courtney Farris (Patrick), and nephew, Dr. Kevin A. Cross (Carolina). He will also be dearly missed by cousins, Carol Sharpe (Tim), Mike Collier and Steve Collier (Andre), as well as many lifelong friends considered true family.
A memorial service will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church Chapel on July 20, 2026 at 12:00 pm with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
