Wilma Elaine Gray

Elaine was born on April 3, 1939 in Opelika, Alabama, to Oscar Leo Harris and Mary Porter Harris. Elaine was a 1957 graduate of Selma High School and attended college at Troy State University.

She married Robert Eugene Gray on January 23, 1959. Mrs. Gray spent 21 years as a USAF military spouse. During that time, she was active in the Air Force Officer's Wives' Association. In her career, she worked in HR at Jefferson Federal, as an elementary school teacher's aide and substitute teacher, and managed June's Brides and Tant and Tant Formalwear.

Elaine and Bob had two children; Michele Elaine was adopted at birth in 1965 and Vincent Vaughn was born in 1970. She was active and involved with her children throughout the years as a room mother, girl scout troop leader, band parent, and football mom. Elaine loved being a mother and then grandmother. She had five grandchildren; Taylor Gray Conner of Gulfport, MS, Brendan Patrick Conner of Birmingham, AL, Carson Reed Conner of Birmingham, AL, Walker Clay Gray of Birmingham, AL and Katie. Elaine's children and grandchildren were the center of her life and she adored spoiling them.

Following Bob's retirement from the Air Force, they retired in Birmingham, where they lived for 35 years. Elaine was a die-hard Auburn fan and loved cheering her Tigers in football, basketball and softball.

Elaine is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Bob Gray. She is survived by her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.
