Clarence William (Bill) Scott, Jr., 88, passed away September 14, 2019. He received his Bachelor of Science at The University of Alabama in Commerce of Business Administration and a Law Degree from The University of Alabama School of Law. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 on board the USS Polaris. He retired after 30 years as a Vice President of Real Estate and Trust from Regions Financial Corporation. He attended The First Baptist Church since 1938 where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher as well as a mentor for many younger members. He was a member of the Alabama Bar Association. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Pell City, The University of Alabama Alumni Association and a charter member of the Logan Martin Red Elephant Club.
He is survived by his wife Helen Bain Purdy Scott; daughters Margaret “Loo” Scott (Gaius V) Whitfield and Elizabeth “Bess” Scott (Phil) Oswalt; sister, Emma Scott (Steve) Milam; grandchildren, Gaius (Anna) Whitfield VI, Hunter Scott (Alex) Whitfield, Pasha C. Bettie Scott, and Taylor Dennison Oswalt; and great granddaughters, Elizabeth Scott Whitfield and Margaret McCain Whitfield.
From his marriage to Helen, he is survived by sons William Grant (Robin) Purdy, James Robert (Rhonda) Purdy; grandchildren, William Robert (Gloriane) Purdy, James Robert (Jeanne) Purdy Jr., Lindsay JoAnn (Michael) Thompson, William Brock (Hayley) Purdy, Haley Sullivan (Justin) Williams, Adam Jameson (Alyssa) Purdy, and Kathleen Purdy (Garrett) Bowling; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Parrish Scott; son, Clarence William “Scooter” Scott III; sisters Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Scott and Martha Scott Weeks; and parents Elizabeth Knight and Clarence William Scott, Sr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 18, at 11:00 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Pell City with special music provided by Robert Hunter Parrish, Jr. and the church choir.
Pallbearers are Gaius Whitfield VI, Hunter Scott Whitfield, Henry Shelton Weeks, Roy Keaton Manners, Adam Jamison Purdy, and James Robert Purdy, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
