She is survived by her four children: Rebecca Atchison, Rachel Bailey (Eddie), Jason Harris (Karen), and Josh Harris (Marta). Donella said that her children were the love of her life. She displayed unconditional love and selflessness, always prioritizing their needs over her own. She was a proud grandmother of five (Claire, Alex, Drew, Robert, and Ben) and great grandmother of three.
Donella was born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 30, 1943, to Clara and Robert Dietrich. She lived most of her childhood in Atlanta (Buckhead), Georgia. Donella was formally educated at David Lipscomb College and Massey Business College, along with Key to Grace Modeling School, Charm Modeling School, and Patricia Stevens Modeling School. She showed an early knack for being around cameras, starting at WLW-A Channel 11 in Atlanta as a secretary, quickly earning secretary of the month. This led to a modeling career that lasted over 30 years. After modeling, Donella used her talents to make others beautiful, as a makeup artist with Estee Lauder. This skill would carry on beyond her professional career into beauty pageants and weddings, all voluntary and free of charge.
Donella was active in her church, First United Methodist, at one time serving in the Worship Committee, Alter Guild (Chairman), and Evangelism Committee. She served her community as well in such groups as the Library Guild, Pell City Garden Club (Secretary), and Animal Shelter of Pell City. Additionally, she volunteered her time with such organizations as the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, The Children’s Place, The Village At Cook Springs, and Parents Anonymous. Donella was trained/educated in “Southern Etiquette” and lived her life treating others by those principles.
Donella was a dear friend to many. Her kindness, grace, hospitality, and empathy touched many lives. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Donella’s life at 2:00 PM on Saturday February 21, 2026 at First United Methodist Church, 2200 3rd Avenue North, Pell City, Alabama 35125.
