Edward “Edd” Gammon Cothran, Jr. passed peacefully on January 3, 2020 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Carla Ross Cothran and his children, David Cothran (Jennifer), Luke Ross Cothran (Rebekah), Cameron Powell Hardin (Chuck). In addition, Edd is survived by two sisters, Catherine Cothran and Margie Cothran Garrity (Mike). Edd was proud of his six grandchildren, Charles, Ross, Anna and Sarah Beth Hardin; Luke Ross, Jr. and Cade Cothran. Edd is predeceased by his parents, Edward Gammon Cothran and Margie Stewart Cothran and also by his brother, Stewart Rutherford Cothran.
Edd grew up in Greensboro and Selma, Alabama. He was a resident of Pell City for the past thirty-five years. He was also a well-respected carpenter and custom craftsman. He held certificates in numerous skilled trades, including auto-body repair and drafting. As a carpenter, he did home repair and custom carpentry for several residents in the Pell City area. He was an active member of Lakewood Presbyterian Church. Edd was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Services will be held at Kilgroe Funeral Home on Monday, January 6th, at 2:00p.m. Visitation begins at 1:00p.m. Interment immediately following the service at Coosa Valley Cemetery, Cropwell, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be David Cothran, Luke Cothran, Charles Hardin, III, Ross Hardin, Charles Hardin, II, and Lindsay Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Garrity, Timothy Dale Newbrough, II, Rusty Matthews, Steve Farmer and Albert Nixon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 4970 Stemley Bridge Road, Pell City, AL 35125, or to a charity of your choice.
